PALOP refers to the group of Portuguese-speaking African countries (Portuguese: Países Africanos de Língua Oficial Portuguesa) We will have an amazing day of events such as art, DJs, face painting, guest braiders, performances, workshops, and more taking place across different floors.

A creative collective championing Black LGBTI artists across the Diaspora, Africa, the Caribbean and Latin America. TBTB has curated a day of workshops, pop-ups and performances.

• Elisa Monteiro’s Showcase, an interactive performance created by Elisa Monteiro, explores the Bissau-Guinean trans and queer experience between Lisbon and London
• #NôBalur Pop-up, a merchandise selling point of our exclusive t-shirts and tote bags, as well as of our third re-edited zine issue Sabura and updated version of Lisbon Black Guide, and guest braiders to provide simple protective hairstyle appointments on the spot
• IXI IETU Screening, a new documentary by Rafaela A. Neto honouring and reflecting the [PALOP] community and the PALOP] individual set in the Lisbon diaspora
• The Library Corner, a small, yet educational space featuring Afro-Lusophone talent and history through art and music, contextualising the audience with old to new school gems
• TBTB Community Archive, a folder showcasing the archive and history of the collective since February 2021, giving an insight of our goals, milestones and future plans
• Things I Imagined Book, a community board open to audience’s testimonials on stuff they have imagined, ahead of the project launch during UK Black History Month
• PALOP Corner, snacks such as rissóis and pastéis

Henrique J Paris - Lusophonic Hapticities Installation (@vweto)

Henrique J. Paris is an Angolan transdisciplinary artist and independent researcher, who graduated in Philosophy with film at the University of Hertfordshire — His works cross-examine ideas between spatial performativity and bodily memory; posing questions concerned with visual culture, philosophy, and architecture.

Henrique’s ongoing research Investigates counter-colonial epistemologies to assess image-making & knowledge-production systems. Often using mediums across design, multimedia installations, and moving still images.

Past projects include Tactility: (re)thinking ethics of cultural heritage and land at the V&A Museum in London, Mem | ora | bilia at Brixton House Theatre, Registos Bantu w/ Douglas Hyde Gallery in Dublin, My Ontological Corporeality at Hangar in Lisbon and more.

Installation

Lusophonic Hapticities - Explores conjunction of African narratives and discourses in Portugal, contesting corporeal archives and spatial performativities. In the context of the installation, where the focus is on sonic/oral practices performed and carried across historical events and a continuously resisting legacy challenging colonial climates in Europe — Interested in contemplating the ways cultural values and systems are resuscitated.

Creole Workshop with Paula Moreno (@journeywithmissmoreno)

Curated by The Blacker The Berry, hosted by Paula Moreno, gives a representation of the infamous dialect turned into a language originated in Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde, which influenced a lot of the current Portuguese slang, specifically spoken in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area.
