Join us for a conversation between practising artists Marianne Fahmy and Nada Elkalaawy moderated by curator Hanya Elghamry.

The Artists

Marianne Fahmy (b. 1992) is an Egyptian artist living and working in Alexandria, Egypt, whose works span film and installation. She earned her BA in Painting from Alexandria’s Fine Arts University, before joining the MASS Alexandria independent art program in 2016. She has been selected as the recipient of the 2024 Prince Claus Mentorship Award: Cultural & Artistic Responses to the Environmental Crisis.

Nada Elkalaawy (b.1995) is an Egyptian artist living and working in London. She holds an MFA in Painting from the Slade School of Fine Art (2018) and a BA in Fine Art from Kingston University (2016). She is predominantly a painter but also works with drawing, animation, and tapestry.

The Curator

Hanya Elghamry (b.1997) is an Egyptian multidisciplinary visual artist and independent curator, working in a variety of media including painting, photography, installation, and video. She received two bachelor’s degrees in visual arts and integrated marketing communication from The American University in Cairo, and a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts from Central Saint Martins, University of Arts in London where she has also studied Curation of Contemporary Art. Hanya has participated in and curated several group exhibitions, in London and Cairo.
