International Afro Dance Festival

September 26, 2020 @ 14:00 - 16:00

African Dance Festival

The International Afro Dance Fest 2020 is an exciting online event celebrating contemporary African Dance through the youthful global leaders of the ever-growing Afrobeats dance scene. Hosted by The Africa Centre, from our base in Southwark, London, this ambitious project will connect young, energetic, and flamboyant dancers of African heritage that are based in three different continents and provide a platform for them to showcase their talent. Nigeria, Ghana, DR Congo, and Zambia are some of the countries represented. All the featured dancers have a combined social media following of more than 2 million! Whoop!

It’s more than just about dance. There is so much happening in the world right now, from the global health crisis to the uprising against police brutality and institutional racism in many parts of the world. This is a crucial moment to come together and enjoy captivating rhythmic motions inspired by sounds from the Motherland! The Africa Centre also realises the importance of empowering the youth and creating spaces for them to express themselves, a role the charity has played since its opening in 1964.

All the dancers involved in this project have inspirational stories and many are involved in community projects either where they live or in the countries whey they are originally from. Expect to see and hear your favourites, from @yourfavafrican, @kingnature_, @cocainnaofficial, @jenybsg, @incredibleziggi and @stormiebandele.

This will be an interactive event with multiple dance presentations, a DJ set, interviews, and of course, an after-party! There will also be opportunities for Q&As and networking.

The presentations will be judged by both the audience and a panel of judges from professional dance and performing arts backgrounds. Spread the word! #afrodancefest2020
