Event Series November to December 2019.

The African Concert Series, featuring monthly events of music by African classical composers, was launched by award-winning Nigerian-Romanian pianist Rebeca Omordia in 2019.

 

1 November, 7.30pm 

Arabæsque: Piano Music from the Arab World” with Moroccan-Hungarian pianist Marouan Benabdallah

Renowned Moroccan-Hungarian pianist Marouan Benabdallah has toured as a soloist worldwide. He has received rave reviews for his “Arabæsque: Piano Music from the Arab World” programme which explores the music of composers from North Africa and the Middle East including Algeria, Morocco, Lebanon and Syria. Benabdallah brings “Arabesque” for the first time to the UK at the African Concert Series on 1 November. Not to be missed! Click here for a preview…

29 November, 7.30pm – “Nigerian Odyssey” piano recital by Nigerian pianist Glen Inanga

Nigerian-born pianist Glen Inanga has performed as a soloist on world’s most important stages. Following his graduation from Clare College, Cambridge University, where he read Engineering, Glen Inanga studied at the Royal Academy of Music, London where he was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM) in 2003. Glen Inanga is a great pioneer of Nigerian classical music and has worked closely with Nigerian composers, including Prof. Akin Euba, performing at the “Composition in Africa” symposiums in Cambridge. Glen Inanga’s recital at The African Concert Series includes works by Nigerian composers Akin Euba, Joshua Uzoigwe, Fela Sowande and the world premiere of Ayo Bankole’s “Fugal Dance”.

5 December, 7.30pm – Chineke! Chamber Ensemble 

The celebrated Chineke! Ensemble joined by Artistic Director Rebeca Omordia at the piano, will close the 2019 season of The African Concert Series with a thrilling performance of music by Black British Composers including NNENNA by Errollyn Wallen and Nonet by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor.
