Screening of Winnie

Date:  Friday 27 April 2018 – 6pm – 10pm
Location: Arch 29 @TheAfricaCentre

Decolonising The Archive and Black History Studies In partnership with Brand South Africa, invite you to the screening of Winnie.

Winnie Madikizela-Mandela was variously viewed as the wife of South Africa’s most revered leader, the mother of her nation and a revolutionary force in her own right.

Join us for an exclusive night of film + panel Q&A with anti-Apartheid activist Chitra Karve & special guests. Last seats available here. Earning documentarian Pascale Lamche the World Cinema (Documentary) Directing Award at the Sundance Film Festival, ‘Winnie’ peers behind the conflicting public perceptions, endeavouring to reconcile the rhetoric with the reality. Featuring an extensive array of archival footage as well as historical and contemporary interviews with Madikizela-Mandela herself, the probing film asks audiences to cast fresh eyes over its polarising famous figure.
