Future Trends 3 Oct – 7 Oct

Future Trends is a collaboration between the award winning creative consultants Pidgin Perfect (Glasgow), fashion curators 2ManySiblings (Nairobi), Zoma Contemporary Arts (Addis) and The Africa Centre (London). The project is a new Arts new Audiences (nAnA) grantee through the ‘British Council’s East Africa Arts’ programme.

Future Trends is a look into a utopian future where reimagined fashions, design, and architecture combine with emerging forms of technology to establish new desires.

Future Trends explores how the way people are choosing to style themselves in contemporary urban cultures in East Africa is making possible the construction of new identities; showcasing the expression of alternative models for citizenship; and forging new forms of social exchange.

Over the course of the year, research into fashion trends and a series of Future Trends Thrift Socials will be run between Nairobi, Addis Ababa and London. The project will culminate in the Future Trends Portal, a pop up concept fashion store showcasing the work from East African designers and the UK, at the Africa Centre in London between 3 October until 7 October.
