The Africa Centre launches “Experience in Hospitality” Programme to empower careers in the Food and Beverage sector
LONDON. 17 September 2021.
The Africa Centre today announced the launch of the Experience in Hospitality programme, an initiative that will offer 8 to 12 chefs a rewarding opportunity to gain practical experience across the varied hospitality offerings of a leading multinational investment bank.
Designed in partnership with BaxterStorey, the programme aims to deliver a unique insight into the corporate F&B sector. It will provide knowledge and training across various culinary experiences, from delicatessen to banqueting.
Experience in Hospitality was developed in direct response to concerns about structural inequalities barring career progression in F&B. Incorporating a mission to increase diversity, career development, and commercial enterprise across the sector, the programme offers comprehensive personal and business development opportunities.
About Experience in Hospitality
The programme is open to both early-career chefs and established enterprises in the culinary industry who will have a unique opportunity to build their confidence and diversify their skillset across different food and beverage aspects. Participants will receive a weekly stipend of £750 and one week of training and experience in Operations, Food Service, Barista Service, Fine Dining, and Events Management. They will leave equipped with knowledge and insight into the demands of a commercial catering environment. Participants will also network with their peers and receive advice and support from industry experts.

Each participant will complete a 5-day placement programme as either a chef or a barista on any of the following weeks:
4 – 8 October
11 – 15 October
18 -22 October
25 – 29 October
Participants will also have the chance to network with their peers and receive advice and support from industry experts. The programme welcomes applications from candidates with a CIEH Foundation Certificate in Food Safety.
