12 Track – Session Two

Another Monday, another playlist to help you through the week. Welcome back to 12Track! This week’s selection is chosen by one of our #FutureTrends exhibition artists, Odette Steele.

So who is this young creative?

“Zambian born, Odette Steele is a Textile Designer and graduate of London College of Fashion, specialising in Embroidery / Embellishment and Print Design. Her influences derive from her African heritage through the dynamic composition of pattern and colour. An individual design style is achieved through manipulating recycled and waste fabrics through weaving or using embellishment to create a fusion of various materials to create a handcrafted luxurious product. Collectively, Odette’s powerful design identity as well her passion on the preservation, development and social responsibility in textiles and international fashion, make her a valuable individual within her field of work. Striving to acknowledge the point of sustainability in showing that this has not only to do with energy consumption, recycling etc.”

Now that you’re a little acquainted, here’s Odette’s choice for the playlist and some reasons why she chose these tracks. Enjoy and checkout some of her work at http://www.odettesteele.co.uk

1.Likes – Chronixx

2.Give me a Reason – Ibibio Sound Machine

This song I selected as the backing track for my short video showcased at Future Trends (video below). Selected for its unique and catchy sound that Ibibio Sound Machine does so well! Fresh and yet with all the elements of a distinct African sound.

3.Majesty – Chronixx
4.Tell me now – Chronixx
Chronixx is one of my favourite artists, it’s very rare for me to listen to an album and love every single track but Chronixx somehow does it effortlessly. His music is pure and good for the heart and mind.
5..Love Again – C4 Pedro ft Sauti Sol
6.Vou Ter Saudades – C4 Pedro
I have a lot of Kizomba music because I dance Kizomba but also it’s very easy to listen to and has a beautiful distinctive sound. Sauti Sol are amazing Kenyan artists that collaborated with C4 Pedro on the track Love Again, and are very good friends with Oliver and Velma from 2manysiblings as I found out on our Future Trends exhibition.
7.Can’t Believe – Kranium ft Ty Dolla Sign & Wizkid
8.Sweet Love – Wizkid
9.Fine Wine – Yxng Bane ft Kojo Funds
10.Finders Keepers – Mabel ft Kojo Funds
11.On my Mind – Jorja Smith ft Preditah
12.Get it Together – Drake ft Jorja Smith & Black Coffee
These last songs are probably the songs that we listened to the most together, they are the easy ‘go to’ ones that have a great energy. Also when you meet people for the first time and you at some point have to play something for them you tend to choose the safest ones that you know everyone will like. Current, Age and Culture Specific! Hopefully I got it right! Otherwise that’s awkward. 🙈
