Welcome Home!

Thursday 9 June 2022 was a momentous occasion as we finally got round to celebrating the official opening of our new headquarters on Great Suffolk Street in Southwark, the cultural heartbeat of London. We had guests from all walks of life and key activities on the day included the unveiling of a mural by the late Mozambican artist Malangatan Valente Ngewnya. The piece, which was originally painted on the walls of our previous home in Covent Garden in 1987, now has pride of place in our new home.

We are open graphic

We are now open to the public and it has been a great pleasure welcoming our communities into the new home for contemporary African culture and heritage.

Our new pan-African restaurant, Tatale at The Africa Centre, opened on 14 July 2022 with a limited service, which will be expanded later from August. Tatale is a contemporary Pan-African restaurant concept, that tells stories through food, art, and culture. After over a year of experimenting with dishes at pop-ups and festivals, the highly anticipated restaurant opens with an exciting menu that represents founder Akwasi Brenya-Mensa’s own Pan-African lens.

We serve African and Caribbean communities in the UK and welcome anyone with an interest in Africa. The Africa Centre has a long and rich history that we are immensely proud of, we are also excited about the plans we have for the future.
