“The Palm Oil Stain”: Book Launch by Nadia Maddy

Nadia Maddy will be launching her new book “The Palm Oil Stain” at the Africa Centre on Friday 27 January from 7pm.

About the book:

It is the late 1990′s in the southwest region of Sierra Leone, a country at war with itself. Shalimar escapes an attack on her village with unexpected help from a mercenary the locals call Chameleon.
Far from home Shalimar learns of the betrayal from those closest to her and must chose to stay as a displaced refugee with a stranger in Freetown or confront those closest to her. Her decision to return to Blama changes the course of her life forever.

 About the author:

Nadia Maddy is the daughter of Yulisa Amadu Maddy, a celebrated Sierra Leonean writer. Nadia contributed to the BBC’s Video Nation series before producing C4 ‘Aliens Amongst Us’, which won final selection at the Black Hollywood Film Festival. Nadia’s plays have been performed at London’s Half Moon Theatre. ‘The Palm Oil Stain’ is her first novel.
