Long before there was an idea of the 99 percent, Trinidadians were occupying the streets of Port of Spain and then Brooklyn and then Notting Hill and then hundreds of other places around the world, daring any and all to deny us the right to be on the street, claiming the space as ours for our Carnival rituals of celebration and rebellion.
50 years after the Independence, T&T still confronts difficult questions of where we go next.
How does the post-Independence generation engage with the idea of freedom? And who defines our national identity now that we are supposedly free?
